An Impromptu Wednesday Dinner

My plans are just not planning at the minute, and everything seems to be going haywire! So after my friend and I’s plans for a few weeks time went out the window we decided to go for an impromptu dinner last night. It was conveniently supported by an email from the restaurant with a £20 off voucher if you spent £50, only valid this week. We didn’t need much more convincing.

The Cherry Tree at Blackrod is one of my favourite restaurants. It is a family-owned, bistro-style restaurant just off the A6 in Bolton, near Chorley. It isn’t one I manage to visit often given it is a bit of a drive from my house and I don’t drive myself, but I absolutely love it every time I do manage to go. The restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful with a jungle-vibe, leaning into it’s name.

It is very popular for it’s events as well as it’s usual menus, and as a subscriber to their email newsletter I often hear about these. They also feature them on their website here. Last night I wasn’t feeling overly hungry so decided to do 2 courses instead of the usual 3. Now normally I would always choose a starter & main, but last time I did this I could not fit my main course in, so I opted for main and dessert instead.

For my main course I chose the Cajun Spiced Chicken Skewer costing £19.95. It features a toasted piadina flatbread with a chopped tomato & red onion salad, topped with feta cheese. It was accompanied by sriracha mayonnaise and sea salt fries. To put it plainly, it was simply delicious. As someone who can’t eat very big portions, I had purposely skipped lunch and managed to polish most of this off with the exception of a few fries. I am not a lover of spicy food, but the cajun was just mild enough so really yummy. My friend chose the 10oz Cheshire Cured Gammon Chop which was priced at £18.95. It was served with peppercorn sauce, English greens, hand cut chips and a poached egg.

I wasn’t sure I could fit dessert in, but decided to go for it anyway. I chose the Sticky Toffee Pudding which was accompanied by warm caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream. I was very grateful for a simple and smooth sticky toffee pudding, as personally I prefer it without large fruit chunks. My friend chose the Warm Cherry & Almond Bakewell which came with a cherry compote, clotted cream ice-cream and a biscuit crumb. They were both priced at £9.95.

Overall including our soft drinks our bill totalled £64, however with our ‘Treat a Friend’ voucher this brought it down to £44 which was just fantastic for a last-minute evening out with amazing food. We split the bill 50/50 for ease. I honestly had no complaints and the atmosphere was great. It was surprisingly busy for a mid-week evening so I am glad I booked on Tuesday morning when we decided. Our sitting was at 6.45pm and we left around 8.30pm.

For transparency, none of this review or content is sponsored or was requested. Just me sharing my experience of my impromptu Wednesday dinner.

Love, Beth x
